US revision of the Fuel Economy Label for 2012

EPA and the National Highway Traffic Safety are considering two different designs, one label much like the current one (in first) or a completely different approach (in second).

The goal of this new label is the same as the previous one, (but updated for the new technologies such electric vehicles or plug-in hybrids) : provide simple, straightforward comparisons across all types of vehicles .

The vehicles will be labeled under 5 different types.

Gasoline and Diesel / Electric / Plug-In hybrid / Flexible Fuel / Compressed Natural Gas
