Intelligent Energy, Lotus Engineering, LTI vehicles and TRW Conekt, with UK Government funding unveiled a full performance, zero-emissions Fuel Cell Hybrid London taxi. The cab is powered by an Intelligent Energy hydrogen Fuel Cell system hybridized with lithium polymer batteries. It has a top speed of 80mph (130km/h), a range of more than 250 miles (400km) on a full tank, refueling takes about 5 minutes. The introduction of this fleet should happen by 2012, says Dr. Henri Winand CEO at Intelligent Energy. Later this year, London will start operating five hydrogen fuel cell buses. The mayor of London is working with manufacturer to make all taxis operating in London zero tail-pipe emissions by 2020. On a larger scale, London Hydrogen Partnership has published an action plan to create a « Hydrogen network » by 2012, that will deliver at least six refueling sites to run hydrogen-powered vehicles. The plan also aims to encourage a minimum of 150 hydrogen-powered vehicles on the road in London by 2012. Source: Intelligent energy
