BMW will launch the 5 Series ActiveHybrid or the i5 in Shanghai?

15/03/2011
In its annual speech, Dr. Norbert Reithofer, Chairman of BMW AG announced that a 5 Series “New Energy Vehicle” will be premiered at the Shanghai Motor Show in mid-April.

Conventional hybrid technology or range extender? It remains unknown but the 5 Series Li (long version, the Chinese market loves this long versions) will be a plug-in hybrid, BMW’s e-car "for China from China".

We know that a 5 Series ActiveHybrid is in the works but aren’t sure that it is the actual model to be presented in Shanghai, it could also be an i5 the sedan for BMW's new range called "i" and that would be a big surprise...

“A highlight at the Shanghai Motor Show in mid-April will be the presentation of our New Energy Vehicle.
This model will be our e-car from China for China – a long version of the BMW 5 Series as a plug-in hybrid.”
