To mark the opening of the Tesla showroom in Milan, Elon Musk is detailing the Model S development via the brand’s blog.
As we could guess, the first units to be delivered will be the most expensive called Signature Series, they will feature a unique badging, be equipped with the 300 miles (483km) battery pack and exclusive options.
While the original price of the Model S is $ 57,400 with the 160 miles (257km) battery, the optional 230 miles (370km) battery is “charged” $ 10,000 and $ 20,000 for the 300 miles version, that makes a total of $ 77,400 in the U.S.
The first 1000 copies of the Signature Series Model S will be delivered mid 2012 in the U.S., 230 and 160 miles versions in late 2012.
As for the European versions, they will be delivered in late 2012 for the left hand drive models and mid 2013 for the right hand drive versions. Each launch will begin with a limited edition of the Signature Series.
Tesla hopes to produce 5,000 Model S in 2012 and reach its maximum production capacity in 2013 with 20,000 units.
Although the base and battery packs prices have been revealed, the final American price of the Tesla Model S Signature Series as well as global prices are being finalized and will be announced this summer.
For the record the Model S looks like this on the road and here are its specs.
