The new Golf Cabriolet to be revealed in world premiere at the Geneva 2011 Auto Show will offer three engines out of six equipped with Bluemotion technology.
For now, only 2 of them were revealed
the 1.2 TSI
and 1.6 TDI
both Euro 5, they deliver an equivalent power of 105hp (77kW).
First, let's have a look to the exterior, we can notice a slight family resemblance with the A3 Cabriolet which uses the platform and we see the LED rear lights that look like the ones of the Golf GTI.
The roof’s opening process takes 9.5 seconds and can be done to speeds up to 30kph, the trunk has the same capacity of 250l either the roof is open or closed
Enough for the brief, now engines comparison :
The 1.2TSI delivers 105hp and 175Nm of torque, 0 to 100kph takes 11, 7 seconds and the maximum speed is 188 kph.
Environmental performances: emissions of 132g/km and average consumption of 5.2 l/100km.
The 1.6TDI 105hp delivers 250Nm of torque, 0 to 100kph takes 12.1 seconds, top speed is 188kph.
It emits 117g/km and its average consumption is 4.4 l/100km
5 speed gearbox for the diesel version and 6 speed gearbox for the gasoline version.
The diesel version weighs 1501kg while the gasoline verison 1421kg.
To summarize there is not much differences in terms of performance for both versions, it is mostly the fuel economy and emissions figures that changes (and probably the price when it will be revealed). For the moment all we know is that the Golf Cabriolet will be available before year end at a price starting at € 23,625.
