PGE and NEC opening the first quick charge station

Portland General Electric (PGE) and NEC announced today that they have opened the first North American public use quick charge station for electric vehicles, where they can charge up in 20 to 30 minutes.

It has been awarded public use by the city of Portland after successful installation and testing by Takasago LTD (a subsidiary of NEC, specialized in recharging Lithium Ion batteries).
This Takasago Rapid Charging Station requires only 20 to 30 minutes to recharge the battery to 80%.

NEC’s general manager said: “As a supplier of electric vehicles batteries, our introduction of the rapid electric vehicle charging station is a natural stage in the evolution of NEC’s environmentally friendly solutions”.
