According to Autocar
, VW is finalizing an hybrid version of the Up called blue-e-motion; although we figure the name remains uncertain as VW already presented a pure electric Up! blue-e-motion in China last June (pictures below).
This hybrid version would use some of the technologies developed on the XL1
to achieve a fuel economy under 3l per 100km thanks to its engines, a 800cc diesel twin cylinder developing 48hp combined with a 26hp electric engine and a seven speed DSG gearbox.
The hybrid Up should be unveiled at the Frankfurt Auto show.
