An efficient airplane, the A320 Neo

Times are changing and even planes will now become more efficient, Pratt & Whitney won an award for their Pure Power PW1100G, and this engine has been selected to equip the future A320 Neo family to enter service in 2016.

To give some figures on the engine only (based on the PW1000G model):
-15% decrease in consumption
-15% reduction in CO² emissions
- 50% reduction in NOx
- Engine noise reduced by 50%
- Reduced maintenance costs

The PurePower engine uses an advanced gear system allowing the engine's fan to operate at a different speed than the low-pressure compressor and turbine.  The combination of the gear system and an all-new advanced core allows those improvements.

"The PurePower engine family has helped the aerospace industry redefine what is possible and when it's possible," said Pratt & Whitney President David Hess.  "We are very proud that Airbus selected the PW1100G engine to power the A320neo, and we are committed to flawlessly deliver 100 percent of the benefits of this extraordinary new engine.  Airlines flying the PW1100G powered A320neo will have a competitive advantage by cutting fuel and maintenance costs while shrinking their environmental footprint with significantly reduced noise and emissions."
