Yamaha is set to develop the autonomous and innovative boat Breeze 10


The Japanese company officially announced on the 7th of July their intention to develop the Breeze10, a new and autonomous electric boat that would ensure the surveillance of dams. At first the company said it would sell it to subcontractors, but, would also take the technology further into the field of monitoring and defence.

The boat is a zero-emission and high-tech boat

To guarantee autonomous navigation, the Breeze10 uses satellite positioning and gives data in azimuth angles. The boat is designed to accommodate sonar, which detects and localizes sediments in water. The boat is extremely compatible with the sonar “Sonic2024” made by the American company R2Sonic.

The Lithium-ion battery, together with the on-board compact generator ensures significant operating time (6 hours) for maximum power of 500W, and zero-emissions.

The Breeze10 stands out from the other boats for its adaptability due to its three functioning modes programmed according to environmental conditions and the duration of the sounding. It’s a way of operating done remotely and auto/manual navigation. The boat hull can also be accommodated to operation in not so deep areas.

It’s compact so easy to transport (3m long, 1,2 wide and 1m high, without the antenna and the trailer).

An invention made to guarantee the efficient maintenance of dams 

Dams play a significant role in the prevention of floods, help irrigate and most importantly produce electricity. Their maintenance is vital especially since the results of a dam failure or a breach would be catastrophic and cause collateral damage on a human, environmental and material level. In order to anticipate maintenance of dams, it’s necessary to identify and measure the potential causes of the failure before hand.

This is when the Breeze10, designed by Yamaha comes into play.  It’s thanks to high-tech attributes that the boat can monitor regularly dams.

How? The boat monitors frequently to mainly measure the levels of the sedimentation of the dam (accumulation of layers of particles and different materials), which could prevent the smooth functioning of the dam, and impact its capacity to collect water.

It is therefore an excellent tool to prevent risk and thorough investigation on the topography near the dam. It’s autonomous, precise, timesaving, and makes it easier for the workers. It enhances the efficiency of the measurements in bad weather conditions (mountainous regions with extremely cold weather for instance). The assembling time is reduced; route navigation is more precise via auto-navigation. The Breeze10 is also practical in terms of running time, and easy to carry since it’s compact ( it can be transported in lorries).
