05/01/2015

For the 2015 Las Vegas CES that opens tomorrow, we expect a lot of autonomous and connected cars as the previous years, but a former exec of HTC also has a surprise.

Horace Luke, former director of the innovation of the SmartPhone brand present in this high-tech show an electric scooter and battery exchange station solution, the Gogoro technology and Smart Scooter.

Indeed, during our stay in Taiwan for EV Taiwan show, we noticed that the battery exchange stations were growing in the city - largest consumer of electric two-wheelers, the Asian continent is a precursor in this market, and the battery swap technology arises as a response to the charging time.

Founded in 2011, the company Gogoro raised $100million in 2014 in two rounds, enough to make an offensive on the electric two-wheeler market credible!

For the moment Gogoro does not specify if they will prefer to develop a scooter-sharing network or only a battery exchange infrastructure, but the Smart Scooter starts with a hands-free key (via Bluetooth) and the station (Go Station) is operated through NFC...

Specs of the Smart Scooter by Gogoro

This electric scooter took three years of development with an ultra-efficient and digitally optimized drive train with easy access to components to ease maintenance.

The scooter weighs 94kg without the batteries, two packs (Panasonic cells) located under the seat add 18kg for a total weight of 112kg, with its motor of 6.4kW in peak, the Smart Scooter Gogoro can reach 95kph for maximum range of 100km (at 40kph).

Only the price of the stations is announced for now, starting at $ 10,000, they only need a plug to be operational.
