(VIDEO) LA Auto Show: Mini’s latest vehicle is an electric scooter

The brand Mini is the most urban and lifestyle in the automotive landscape, as its always funnier and sporty versions of the city car prove it, but the brand is also thinking of the last miles with this electric kick scooter called Citysurfer.

Revealed in world premiere at the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show, the Citysurfer kickscooter is powered by BionX (reknowed provider of electrification kit – fitted for instance in the Smart eBike). The design of its rims recall Mini’s design and of course it opts for the Union Jack so dear to the brand!

About the specs this 18kg kick scooter can reach 25kph, the motor’s support is controlled via a throttle placed on the handlebar and does not work below a certain speed (probably for safety reasons and because of the torquey electric motor...) letting the user push the Citysurfer on the first meters with its physical force only.

Range is announced between 15 and 25 km but the Citysurfer concept can also be used without electric support and without the resistance of the motor (free wheel).

Mini does not yet provide pricing or a release date but it seems imminent!

To recall, the idea of the electric scooter is not new in the group, the concept of BMW i8 Spyder already hosted two electric scooters in the trunk!
