(VIDEO) Kia Optima T-Hybrid, Kia’s diesel hybrid uses an electric compressor and a lead carbon battery!

After the Kia Optima Hybrid (gasoline) sold in the United States and Europe since 2010, Kia will introduce at the 2014 Paris Auto Show a diesel hybrid powertrain in its D segment sedan.

Indeed, to reach its sales target for the European market, Kia has to go through diesel and offers a hybrid version of the 1.7l CRDi engine, no official figures but the performance of the car are up by 20% for emissions down by 20% according to the first tests!

This Kia Optima T-Hybrid is the brand’s first diesel hybrid demonstrator announcing the arrival of a mild hybrid technology at Kia, it is based on an innovative lead carbon battery that heats less and is more easily recyclable.

This hybrid drivetrain also allows the adoption of an electric compressor on the diesel engine meaning more torque and improved response time.

A more detailed specs sheet should be revealed in a few days on the manufacturer’s booth.

As a reminder you also have the option of the 100% electric with the Kia Soul EV with a 200km range!
