Geneva 2014 : Hyundai Intrado - a fuel cell compact SUV

Update of February 23rd article with a video of its world premiere in Geneva

Last December Hyundai revealed the first sketches of the concept Intrado, a compact SUV. Approaching the Geneva Motor Show, new information and first pictures emerge.

Its sleek design is dictated by aerodynamics and "function", only the front grille allows to distinguish it’s a Hyundai. According to Peter Schreyer, the Intrado is the ultimate expression of the brand.
Under its "fresh" design we find a powertrain already featured in the ix35 Fuel Cell tested by the brand since 2011.

Actually, the Hyundai Intrado has been specifically designed around the fuel-cell technology, marking the brand's commitment to this alternative propulsion. It houses 144l of hydrogen (5.64kg) stored at 700bars for one kilo per 100km, the fuel cell feeds a 36kW battery for a range close to 600km.

The battery is located under the rear seats and hydrogen tanks in the trunk.
About performances 0 to 100kph takes 12.2 seconds and maximum speed is electronically limited to 160kph.

About what it says for the brand’s range, this concept-car which will be premiered at the Geneva Motor Show either foreshadows the next ix35 evolving in a hyper-competitive segment or a model placed just below, urban crossover, missing in the Korean manufacturer’s current range !
