In line with the TwinDrive prototypes this GTE Golf combines a 150hp 1.4TSI gasoline engine and a 75hp electric motor for a combined power of 204hp and 350nm. A plug-in hybrid petrol unit already featured in the A3 Sportback e-tron and the Seat Leon Verde prototype.
Thanks to this innovative drivetrain the car goes for 0 to 100kph in 7.6 seconds for emissions of 35g/km and fuel consumption announced at only 1.5l per 100km (according to NEDC cycle - obsolete with PHEVs) however, its weight increases to 1523kg – against 1302kg for the GTD version due to the 120kg, 8.8kWh battery placed in the floor.
Range reaches 930km in combined mode and 50km in electric only..
Listed price is rumored between 30,000 and 40,000€, this Golf GTE should arrive in showrooms in late 2014 !
