A few weeks before the opening of the Frankfurt Motor Show (IAA 2013), where the BMW i3 and i8 in series version will be the stars of the show, BMW has just announced another concept a plug-in hybrid X5 called Concept5 or X5 eDrive.
This vehicle follows the steps of the Active Tourer concept (and Active Tourer Outdoor), the brand’s first plug-in hybrid, a logical evolution of the ActiveHybrid range
using the eDrive technologies
developed for BMWi models.
The integration of this technology in their bestselling SUV demonstrates the brand’s interest in rechargeable hybrid vehicles.
This plug-in hybrid SUV announces a top speed of 120kph in electric only with a range of 30km from the 70kW (95hp) motor and a lithium-ion battery placed under the trunk, otherwise the combined consumption stands at only 3.8 l/100km.
The combustion engine that is coupled to this electric motor is a four-cylinder TwinPower whose capacity and power have not yet been revealed but the 0 to 100kph is reported in less than 7 seconds for emissions of just 90g/km.
On the aerodynamic side, the Concept5 present some optimizations: roof rails, wheels, unique front and rear bumpers.
