(VIDEO) Mazda Deep Orange 3 by Clemson, a concept of premium compact hybrid vehicle
After an initial presentation in late 2012, during a seminar which opened earlier this week, the Center for Automotive Research from Clemson’s University (CU-ICAR) impressed with its compact hybrid vehicle.
The Mazda Deep Orange 3 concept in details
First, its construction is innovative, a technique patented by the company "Industrial Origami" based on specific folding techniques inspired by this Japanese art allowing to use less material for the same stiffness.
Then let’s talk about the hybrid powertrain, first, and it is very rare, it is fitted with a 5-speed manual gearbox , in addition the car automatically selects the transmission mode, front-wheel drive, rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive!
Finally, the interior configuration allows to seat two rows of three people.
Powered by a 1.5l engine, this hybrid compact car announces a 0 to 100kph in 7.5 seconds, for a consumption of 5.5l per 100km (40-45mpg) according to the first simulations!
Originally revealed in 2012, the second presentation of this concept Deep Orange 3 makes some buzz on the web, evenmore as Infiniti announced a concept-car on the same segment for the Frankfurt Motor Show, the Q30!
