IAA 2013: Toyota Hybrid-R Concept, its a 400hp Yaris!
A hybrid sports-car is a must have in a manufacturer range this decade and while the new Honda NSX just made its debut on the track, Toyota chose the Frankfurt Motor Show to reveal the Hybrid-R concept, derived from developments in endurance races and therefore from the TS030!
Unfortunately the press release is rather short, so it is difficult to know more for now ... Here are some clues, a Hybrid-R badge checkered and/or with carbon reflections for " an exciting new concept that brings Toyota Hybrid System-Racing technology to the road (and track)."
The high performance Hybrid-R Yaris will combine a high-power internal combustion engine and electric motors for a total output of 400hp, two drive modes will be available, race or road.
The premiere of the concept is expected on Toyota’s booth on September 10, but new information will be released before...
To keep you waiting here's a video that details Toyota Hybrid System-Racing (THS-R) technology: the braking energy is converted into electrical energy and stored in a super capacitor that powers the hybrid module for an instantaneous power boost.
The development of this technology for the race enabled Toyota to accelerate the research process and thus allows to offer it in future models in a very short term!
