Opel just released the first image of the Monza Concept to be presented at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2013 and since the guidelines announced are efficiency and connectivity, we can imagine that the Monza Concept’s powertrain could use some of the technology developed for the Cadillac ELR, a range extender premium hybrid sports-car to compete with the Bmw i8 whose official reveal is also expected in Frankfurt!
For now, the powertrain of the car is pure supposition, but since GM has the technology and that the concept-car’s philosophy seem to be in the same vein, we should probably find a range extender technology (or series hybrid) in the Monza Concept.
"The Monza Concept is how we see Opel tomorrow, in the purest form," said Karl-Thomas Neumann, CEO of Opel.
About its design this first image recalls the beautiful Flextreme GT/E Concept already dating back from 2010, precursor at the time, an update with a hybrid drive train is clearly in tune with the market and would allow the brand to continue its upmarket strategy in line with their trendy city car, the Opel Adam!
For the record, the Frankfurt Motor Show opens its doors to the press on September 10th.
