Caterham is about to launch a three cylinder as entry level model

It's now official, Caterham will offer an entry-level vehicle fitted with a three cylinder engine, but unlike the images spotted last October teased, it is not a 1.0l Ford Ecoboost but a Suzuki 660cm3!

Currently, the smallest engine offered by Caterham are based on the 1.6l Ford Sigma and develop from 125 to 140hp.

The famous manufacturer of lightweight sports based on the design of the iconic Lotus Seven, Caterham, created its reputation with pure driving machines. The powertrain evolves but not the design and nor the philosophy, Caterham is about to launch of the lightest cars in its history thanks to the turbo 660cm3!

"It is not engine size that matters, it is the grin factor that is our barometer and we believe we have got the formula for our new entry-level vehicle just right," said Caterham Cars CEO, Graham Macdonald.

The car is expected to be unveiled this fall with a launch announced at the Tokyo Motor Show on the Suzuki booth! Let’s hope we can also see it in Frankfurt ...

The original power of the three cylinder listed at 63hp could be increased even if it would already be enough to offer respectable performances for a Caterham entry-level at less than 20,000 €: the Roadsport, current entry model of the range weighs 550kg and goes from 0 to 100kph in 5.9 seconds at a cost of £ 19,995, or just over € 23,000.

The Caterham with Suzuki engine could easily go below 500kg ... Stay tuned!
