Remember, at the 2012 Paris Auto Show, BMW presented a concept of plug-in hybrid premium compact vehicle, 10 months later, BMW confirms its interest for such a vehicle, with a compact MPV format to compete with the Mercedes B-Class.
Here is then the Active Tourer
in Outdoor version designed for leisure and still with a plug-in hybrid technology for a full electric range of 30km.
This new technology combines a 1.5l TwinPower gasoline combustion engine and an electric motor for a consumption of 2.5l/100km and emissions of 60g/km in combined mode and a total power of 190hp, this architecture is similar to the BMWi8 whose production version should be revealed in 2014.
As for the BMWi3, the same week, the Bavarian brand also unveiled the first official pictures of the highly anticipated production version of their electric compact-car still with some camouflage on the lights. The overall design concept seems preserved and the specs-sheet of the BMWi3
achieves the objectives set by the brand!
Real life range of 130km, 190km in NEDC cycle while the optional 650cc 34hp twin cylinder range-extender, increases the maximum range to 300km.
