(VIDEO) Audi A3 Sportback e-tron, the brand’s first plug-in hybrid arrives in 2014, priced at 40.000€

While the A3 Sportback has been officially presented a few weeks ago, Audi announces the launch of its first plug-in hybrid, the A3 Sportback e-tron.

Indeed, the press release confirms that Audi puts aside 100% electric cars (bye-bye R8 e-tron) in favor of plug-in hybrids that combine the best of both worlds electric / combustion.

In the facts, this Audi A3 Sportback e-tron announces a combined consumption of 1.5l/100km and emissions of 35g/km for a power of 204hp and 350Nm of torque shooting down the 0 to 100kph in 7.6s. The 8.8kWh battery allows a range of  50km in electric only.

However its frugality will have a premium price, as the A3 Sportback e-tron is announced at € 40000, the order books will open at the end of 2013.

About the A1 e-tron and its range extender based on a Wankel engine, Audi confirmes to believe in this technological solution with a test fleet of 80 vehicles still in circulation – but doesn’t about a release on the market yet.

Audi is also working on natural gas and will also offer the A3 G-Tron at a price of € 25900.
