(VIDEO) DHL tests electric cars in Bonn with StreetScooter Van
The company Deutsche Post DHL bets on electric vehicles and launched a pilot project in the city of Bonn. No fewer than 30 vehicles will be put in service by the end of the year.
On May 21, 2013, Deutsche Post DHL has introduced a pilot project that will see the deployment of electric vehicles (StreetScooter Van) in its fleet from mid-2013 in the city of Bonn and the surrounding area. No fewer than 79 electric vehicles are announced before the end of the year and 141 by 2016, thereby avoiding 500 tons of CO2 per year.
"This pilot project is unique in the world and could become a model," said Frank Appel, CEO of Deutsche Post DHL. Continuing then: "We have one of the greenest fleets in the industry."
The car specially developed in partnership with the German company StreetScooter, can travel 120 kms with average routes of 80km, range should be more than enough!
One of the objectives of DHL is that "30% of its fleet of vehicles goes electric by 2015," as announced Michel Akavi, CEO of DHL France last year.
If the pilot project proves to be viable, up to 30,000 units of StreetScooter Van could be ordered.
