Yesterday we introduced one of its competitors the eO PP01, TMG, the Germany-based motorsport division of Toyota has announced that it will defend its Pikes Peak title this year with an upgraded version on both powertrain and aerodynamic levels.
The 2012 version of the TMG EV P002
achieved a new record for an electric vehicle in 2012 with a time of 10min 15.380seconds on the 19.99km hill-climb.
This year, America and Europe’s motorsport teams will work together (TMG and TRD USA): the prototype has been sent to the United States by TMG to be reviewed by TRD USA.
The 2013 TMG EV P002 in details
The driver remains in the center of the car while a protruding wing is now placed at the front. This 2013 version offers more power and torque: 400kW of power (536hp instead of 470hp before) and 1200nm of torque (900nm for the 2012 version) for a maximum speed of 230kph, the EV P002 is powered by a 42kWh Lithium Ceramic battery.
For the record, the TMG EV P002 also set a record on the Nurburgring.
Regarding the 2013 edition of Pikes Peak and the electric cars that will participate, Tajima has not yet presented a 2013 e-Runner and Mitsubishi hasn’t announced the return of the i-MiEV Evolution either.
