(VIDEO) Shanghai 2013: the Buick Riviera icon returns, seductive, high-tech and PHEV
At the 2013 Shanghai Motor Show, the brand Buick owned by GM made a remarkable come-back with a plug-in hybrid concept car, the Buick Riviera, a large four-seater coupe with majestic gullwing doors.
After the Chevrolet Volt and the Cadillac ELR, GM confirms a little more its willingness to electrify its models range and its technological choice of plug-in hybrids and range extender with a small gasoline engine used as generator.
"Riviera is a design study of the future expression of Buick design with its elegant athletic shape, sculptural beauty, and precision execution," said Ed Welburn, GM vice president of global design. "It is a great opportunity to share Buick's future design language and technology strategy."
Indeed, this Buick Riviera is a real technology demonstrator:
-It receives the Buick Intelligent Performance technology (not detailed) and the new GM W-PHEV powertrain, wireless plug-in hybrid, but no figures are provided on the power or range for moment.
This Buick Riviera marks the return of the 110-year old brand that had not presented such an ambitious concept-car for a long time! Buick clearly wants to impress in Asia!
