Nissan has announced its return in the world endurance championship with a car featuring an electric powertrain in 2014. This vehicle will compete in the 24 Hours of Le Mans under the now famous "Garage 56" program which hosted the DeltaWing last year and will host the GreenGT H2 in 2013...
The news of Nissan’s return in endurance occurred this Monday, Feb. 25 while we were announcing here recently, that the Japanese manufacturer stopped its partnership the DeltaWing project, now powered by Mazda.
The announcement was made by the president of Renault-Nissan, Carlos Ghosn on the occasion of the inauguration of Nismo’s new headquarters in Yokohama. He said: "We will return to Le Mans with a vehicle that will act as a high-speed test bed in the harshest of environments for both our road car and race car electric vehicle technology,"
There has been no further details on the nature of the LM24 Racer powertrain. Will it “just” be a hybrid as the Audi R18 e-Tron and Toyota TS030 (not enough for the Garage 56...) or more likely an all-electric technology with a quick swap ability for the batteries as some mention here and there .. . To be continued !
