Toyota has unveiled the first specs of its hybrid LMP1, the 2013 model. Unlike last year, the TS030 will participate in all the races of the season and aims for first place in front of the Audi R18 e-tron quattro.
The world endurance championship starts soon, so manufacturers start to reveal the changes they have made to their cars. For the Japanese Toyota, there are no major changes after the good season ending with several pole positions and wins.
The main changes on the two TS030 focus on the drivetrain, chassis and aerodynamics. Toyota engineers have contributed to increase the performance, transmission of the power and reliability. The naturally aspirated 3.4l V8 delivers 530hp and two electric motors provide and additional 150hp to both front and rear axles.
Toyota’s main competitor, the Audi R18 e-tron quattro features a single electric motor powering the front wheels.
The new Toyota TS030 is 15kg heavier than last year because of new regulations to enhance the driver safety. Audi is expected to unveil the specs of its 2013 cars in the coming weeks. The season begins on April 14th and ends at Silverstone on November 30 in Bahrain with a culminating point at the24 Hours of Le Mans that will take place on June 22nd.
