Update of February 4th article with the official pictures of the car
For the Chicago Auto Show, Kia teases an Optima Hybrid with Superman colors to promote the donation campaign “We Can Be Heroes" fighting against hunger in Africa.
We already knew the Batmobiles from the eponymous superhero, here is Superman’s. And good news, it's a hybrid! Its exterior design will be entirely designed for the campaign. The UN estimated in late 2012 that in twenty years, the number of people affected by malnutrition on the continent rose from 175 million to 239 million souls.
If the Kia Optima Hybrid is the first
hybrid sedan marketed by the brand, we know for some years now that Kia vehicles are matching the western standards in terms of comfort, safety and build quality. It is still the only brand to offer a 7 year warranty on all their models.
Superman’s Optima is a gasoline-electric hybrid offering in its European version a 2liter 4-cylinder of 150hp backed by a 40 hp (30kW) electric motor. Both motors power the front wheels via a 6-speed automatic transmission.
Consumption of the car is announced at 5.4 liters per 100 km and CO2 emissions at 125 g/km, while its battery offers an even larger warranty, it will be changed by the manufacturer under a minimum level of charge for 10 years or 240.000km.
About the European price, it is also heroic as it is does not exceed € 33,890 full-option (or from € 29,990).
