A plug-in hybrid 5-Series in development?


Recent spy pictures show a camouflaged BMW 5-Series F10 with a "Hybrid Test Vehicle" sticker and what seems to be a flap for a plug...


Is it a production version of the prototype LWB 5-Series developed in partnership with the Chinese Brilliance revealed in April 2011, which announced 215hp from a block TwinTurbo and 94hp electric motor ... Or would it rather be a rechargeable version of the ActiveHybrid5 offering a combined 340hp?

It is still too early to tell, however these photos announce the imminent reveal of a plug-in hybrid BMW 5 Series.

About the model presented at the Shanghai Motor Show, its exportation was not expected, at least in the LWB version, however its production was announced for 2013...

After downsizing represented by the three-cylinder engines, the twin and tri turbo technologies as in the 550d or electric vehicles like the BMW i3 and i8, here is the technology that was missing to BMW’s panel!

Once developed, the strategy could be the same as with the ActiveHybrid, one powertrain fitted in three different models of the range, 3 Series, 5 Series and 7 Series...
