Geneva 2013: Audi A3 plug-in - over 200hp and 2l/100km?


It is not a secret, Audi strongly believes in electric mobility, although the 100% electric models do not seem to be a priority, several hybrid models are already available (A6 - A8-Q5) and the next generation, plug-in hybrids is coming - as the Dual Mode hybrid prototypes foreshadowed (see Audi A1 Dual Mode hybrid) ...

Following the rumor of Audi A6 e-tron Sportback that emerged last week, it is now the turn of the A3 Sportback to be announced (unofficially) in plug-in hybrid version for the Geneva Motor Show.

About its powertrain, a 210hp 2.0liter engine would be combined with a 27hp electric motor, the transmission will be handled by a 7-speed dual clutch gearbox with a 8kWh battery providing up to 50km of range in electric only and a combined consumption announced at 2l/100km!

Six months later, the technology is expected to debut in VWs – with the Plug-in hybrid Golf at the Frankfurt Auto Show.

Estimated price of the A3 Sportback e-tron, around € 35,000...
