Bonneville: VW Jetta "Turbo" hybrid, 185mph and 45mpg!

World’s fastest hybrid sedan, is the new nickname of the Jetta hybrid that reached 185mph, 298.3kph at the Bonneville speed-week. Zoom on this amazing car derived from a series model that will be available by year end in the United States.

How can an hybrid and frugal car reach this impressive speed of nearly 300 kph!? The answer is in the preparation of the machine it is a VW Jetta "Turbo" Hybrid tuned by the R&D department in Wolfsburg, created to highlight the pleasure side of the car.

According to Jonathan Browning, president of Volkswagen America: “As well as being expected to achieve combined fuel economy of 45 mpg, the Jetta Turbo Hybrid also retains the fun-to-drive nature you expect from a Volkswagen in a segment dominated by less exciting vehicles.”

The TSI 1.4l petrol engine remains but is tuned via the turbocharger that increases the power of the small ICE block without increasing consumption (in theory...), it is matted to the double clutch 7-speed DSG gearbox. Still combined with the 27hp electric motor, Volkswagen does not announce the exact power of the Jetta Turbo Bonneville but the combined power of the series model already offers 170hp...

These technologies will be present in the standard model but with a lower degree of competitiveness... About availability in Europe, it is still a little fuzzy but could happen in 2013...
