These performances are obtained through the use of a 4 cylinder diesel engine which produces 204hp and 500 Nm of torque. The car has LITHIUM-ion batteries, a KERS for braking energy recovery, and a 7-speed double clutch gearbox. Top speed is set at 242 kph and the 0-100 km / h is made in 7.5 seconds. The diesel engine is combined here with an electric motor of 20kW and 250Nm.

As regards to the price, Mercedes announced a sale price in Germany of € 51,794 for the sedan version and € 55,007 for the wagon version.

In the city it uses a start / stop system, for low-speed maneuvering the Class E goes into full electric mode. Starts from a stand still are also in full electric mode which is very good, because it’s when the car burns the most fuel. The electric motor can also be used to assist the combustion engine under heavy acceleration.

Mercedes also innovates with the "Sailing" mode, only at speeds below 160 km / h the car will switch to full electric until battery will run flat in order to save fuel then get back to the combustion engine without the driver notice anything.
