Geneva 2012: Hyundai i-oniq concept, a compact car with range extender

02/03/2012
After concepts rather classical, with the i-oniq, the Korean brand announces a new dynamic starting at the Geneva Motor Show, a stylistic approach on a segment with an attractive technology option, the range extender.

This “sport” compact of 4.4m that welcomes 4 people is powered by a 109hp electric motor, and has a range of 120km on electric only. Once the battery depleted, a 1.0l three cylinder takes over and offers up to 700km of autonomy (in combined mode) for emissions of only 45g/km!

An innovative concept for the brand which design and technologic spearhead was Kia until now, it also confirms the premium positioning targeted by the brand.

The Hyundai i-oniq receives LED lights and a "penthouse" roof that offers some light in the lounge interior...

“The i-oniq concept has been created to reflect the new thinking that runs through the Hyundai brand.  It has a bold design, inside and out, that provokes contemplation on the future of automotive possibilities, and a powertrain that highlights one of the ways in which we could power future products – wrapped in a package that exudes premium qualities.”
Allan Rushforth, Vice President of Hyundai Motor Europe

Its direct target, the Audi A1 e-tron which is positioned on the same segment with the same technology.
