Audi will therefore engage four R18 this year in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, including two hybrids.
The hybrid LMP1 receive a V6 TDI diesel powertrain developing a peak output of 510hp, the R18 e-tron quattro are equipped with an energy recovery system located in the front wheels, it redistributes the energy from braking on the same front end, allowing to get 4-wheel drive for a few seconds and increased power.
Such a four-wheel drive hybrid technology had already been introduced on a prototype in March 2011, the Audi A5 quattro e-tron.
The other two race-cars, non-hybrid codenamed Audi R18 Ultra are announced by the brand as the two lightest cars that Audi ever presented at Le Mans!
The R18 e-tron Quattro will compete with two other hybrids at Le Mans, the Toyota TS030.
