(VIDEO) BMW M550Xd: tri-turbo six-cylinder, the efficiency of an hybrid!

A few days ago we had noticed that BMW presented M performance diesel engines that would be fitted to the M550d, X5 and X6 (M50d), but we thought that this quest for power was putting efficiency aside. We were wrong, as the animation below proves it…

Featuring three turbos, TwinPower and Efficient Dynamics technologies, BMW optimizes the 3.0l six cylinder diesel engine.

The result in the M550d, 381hp and 740 nm of torque, the 0 to 100kph in 4.7secondes and emissions of "only" (given its power) 165 g/km, for an average consumption of 6.3l/100km!

An impressive record of efficiency that equals the green credentials of some sporty hybrid sedans, ie: Porsche Panamera S Hybrid, Infiniti M35h and Lexus GS450h but with more power and much more torque!

The BMW ActiveHybrid5 now seems VERY quiet...
