In 2009 Suzuki signed a partnership with Volkswagen -the Asian manufacturer wasn’t feeling “strong enough” to invest massively in hybrid and electric vehicles one its own, while considering electrification technologies as highly strategic- an agreement that has now been brought to courts.

Therefore Suzuki is turning to Mitsubishi for their first 100% electric vehicle: a small utility vehicle based on the i-MiEV Minicab, it should be available from February 2012.

Nissan has also expressed interest in the electric Minicab, its version of the vehicle is expected by the end of 2013’s first quarter.

After governmental grants the Minicab i-MiEV is availble from less than 15000€ (1.700.000 Yens) in Japan.

About hybrid powertrains, Suzuki already has a range extender technology fitted on the Swift, a vehicle that will be presented shortly at the Tokyo Motor Show.
