(VIDEO) EICMA 2011: Vectrix back in the spotlights (VX-3 + VX-2)

Vectrix chose the Milan bike show as opportunity to exhibit its European strategy with ambitious development plans and shop opening.

We already knew the little Vectrix VX-2 but didn’t have the chance to try it yet...
The accelerator feel is ideal (often difficult at first on electric scooters as the management of the immediate torque is a little tricky…) and recalls a combustion scooter. We tried it on the small track of the Green Planet Exhibition that didn’t even allow to reach 45kph, speed at which the VX-2 is limited in 50cc configuration... But we have been able to realize that it was agile and offered good accelerations, to conclude on the VX-2, you can sense it’s a quality product with high-end finish, far from the prototype feel of some electric scooters…


But the VX-2 wasn’t the main attraction… The big news was the return of the VX-3, a three-wheeled electric scooter originally presented as a prototype several months ago... Now, a first series of 100 units has been produced!

Here’s the story about the tech, Piaggio and Vectrix have bought the rights of the pendulum technology from a company that went bankrupt, one committing to use it only for petrol or hybrid models, the other one only with electric... Therefore, it is the same technology, proven and safe, with a button to stabilize the scooter when stopped. 

On the performance side, although we could not fully enjoy the power, the VX-3 gave us the same impression as the test of the VX-1 Li, torquefull accelerations that will leave behind most of the 125cc... Its price is announced around € 12,000 in Europe (without taxes)

Finally, a little confidence, we learnt that Vectrix was working on a new model fitted with large wheels (16 inches) to be presented next year.

With four models, the only electric three-wheeler of the market, a new owner and refreshed teams, Vectrix’s new is very promising.
