Update of Valeo’s micro hybrid system

The i-StARS is the second generation of Valeo’s Stop-Start system. It will be launched at the third quarter of 2010. It allows the automatic engine cut off during a traffic light or traffic jam, it restarts automatically with a touch on the throttle pedal. The average emissions reductions are 5g of CO² per kilometer and can go up to 15% in intense urban conditions. Whenever the speed goes under 8km/h (5 mph) for an automatic gearbox and 20km/h (12,4mph) for a mechanical gearbox, the system cuts the engine, the restart is immediate (400msec). Since the first version of the system, Valeo has had orders from 10 manufacturers and equips 50 models. Source: Valeo
