After a first public appearance in Asia with test fleets under their respective names of Sail EV and Beat EV in China and India, Chevrolet officially announced the arrival of an electric city car in the GM group.
It will be produced in small quantities and commercialized in selected markets in the U.S. and globally in 2013.
This vehicle is in the wake of GM’s electrification strategy launched with the Volt and their hybrid eAssist technology.
The battery will be provided by A123 Systems a Nanophosphate Lithium Ion technology.
The specs and price of the Spark EV will be announced later but to give an overview, the units tested made in India were fitted with a 61hp electric motor a 20kWh battery pack for a 130km range, charging on the 240V takes 8 hours.
