Electric motorcycle: BRD RedShift SM and MX, when the green shift turns red…

04/08/2011
BRD Motorcycles is a company created by motocross enthusiasts looking for equivalent sensations with zero emissions, vehicles desirable for all from the amateur to the professional racer.

“We just want to make faster motorcycles” said CEO, Marc Fenigstein. “We’re a team of riders and racers with high-performance gas machines in the garage. We’re building the bikes we’d rather be riding.”

With specifications comparable to 250cc, the first two BRD models are very promising:

A Cross version, the RedShift MX and a SuperMoto version, the RedShift SM with 40hp outputs for a total weight of 113kg. The electric motor is powered by a 5.2 kWh battery.
Still in prototype and pre-production phase, these bikes should allow a range of 80 km (50 miles) in normal use.

BRD’s plus: the home designed monocoque chassis built from aluminum.

“We’ve developed a completely new method for manufacturing motorcycle frames that allows us to build a competitive chassis right here in California.” added Jeff Sand, Chief Design Officer. The most distinctive feature of the bike is the chassis, made of two sculptural aluminum monocoque members.

BRD Motorcycles will reveal more details at the EICMA in Milan next November, which bodes European ambitions, from the very first units!

The production should start in 2012 for a price around $ 15,000.
