The Kia Optima Hybrid arrives in France, greener and with a competitive price05 October 2012
At the 2012 Paris Motor Show, Kia’s communication efforts were focused on the Pro Cee'd (a 3-door version of the Cee'd) and the new Carens, two world premieres. But then brand also presented the Kia Optima Hybrid, a vehicle sold in the United States for over a year.
For its launch in Europe, Kia has upgraded the car and swapped the 2.4l engine of its hybrid sedan for a more efficient 2.0l, the electric motor is identical and develops 46hp for 209nm of torque.
The performances announced are almost similar: instead of the 206hp of the U.S. version, the combined power reaches here 190hp, the 0 to 100kph displays two more seconds at 9.4 and a maximum speed of 192kph.
Emissions and consumption figures are much more in our standards with 5.4l/100km in combined cycle and emissions of 125g/km.
In terms of price, the Kia Optima Hybrid will be available from € 29,990 claiming its ambitions and direct competition with the Toyota Prius and the (former) Honda Civic Hybrid priced respectively at € 28,000 and € 28,500.
More powerfull than its competitors, it is also the least green, the emissions match is dominated by the Prius with 89g/km. See the specs sheet comparsion here.
